The August 2026 Meta Tier List
Despite Branded Fusion being limited to 1, Branded remains the Tier 1 powerhouse of the format. It is joined at the top by the synchro-heavy Kewl Tune archetype, even though key engine cards like Kewl Tune Cue and Kewl Tune Synchro were semi-limited. Tier 2 is occupied by Dracotail, a highly consistent fusion deck often paired with the Branded engine, and Radiant Typhoon Zoodiac. Meanwhile, Tier 3 features Maliss, Sky Striker, and Yummy, the latter of which recently won the 155-player Challenger Cup EU.
Banlist Shakeup and New Staples
The August 4 banlist heavily targeted degenerate stun strategies, banning Fossil Dyna Pachycephalo and Barrier Statue of the Drought. Top-tier engines were also adjusted: Branded Fusion was limited to 1, while Kewl Tune Cue, Kewl Tune Synchro, Radiant Typhoon Vision, and Radiant Typhoon Chant were semi-limited to 2. Meanwhile, Original Sinful Spoils - Snake-Eye and 'Yummy☆Snatchy' were completely unlimited. Following this, the Desire for Change Selection Pack introduced the new Dinosaur-Fusion archetype GMX, alongside support like Favorite HERO Shining Flare Wingman and Darklord Eveningstar. Most importantly, players are rushing to pull new generic staples such as Forbidden Crown, Solemn Accusation, and Dominus Spark to bolster their competitive lists.
Counter-Play and Climbing Tips
With stun decks effectively dead, the ladder is dominated by combo and fusion-based strategies. To combat the popular Radiant Typhoon control variants, players are utilizing S:P Little Knight to banish Radiant Typhoon Mandate, which successfully disrupts their resource loop. Additionally, players should pivot away from heavy backrow removal and instead focus on high-impact hand traps like Maxx "C", Ash Blossom, and Mulcharmy Fuwalos to stop Tier 1 setups.
The Fusion Cup Event is Live
Running from August 7 to August 17, the Fusion Cup restricts players' Extra Decks primarily to Fusion Monsters. Stage 1 is currently underway, offering players up to 1,600 Gems, exclusive protectors, and reward tickets.
