The Pokémon Company has officially announced that the 3DS-era Pokémon Bank service will shut down on February 26, 2027. This gives players less than 200 days to migrate their legacy Pokémon to Pokémon HOME. On the bright side, the Game Boy Advance classics Pokémon FireRed and Pokémon LeafGreen, currently playable on Nintendo Switch Online, will receive official Pokémon HOME integration in October 2026. Pokopia Sales Milestone and DLC
On the next-gen hardware front, the cozy spin-off Pokémon Pokopia has surpassed 5 million physical and digital sales worldwide, just over four months after its March 5, 2026 launch. Exclusive to the Nintendo Switch 2, the game features players as a Ditto transforming and restoring a desolate land. To celebrate this major milestone, Part 1 of the game's Expansion Pass has officially gone live today, offering fresh content for players to dive into.
World Championships and GO Fest
The pinnacle of competitive play is almost here as the 2026 Pokémon World Championships head to San Francisco, California, from August 28 to 30, 2026. Held at the Moscone Center and Chase Center, players will battle for a combined prize pool of over $2,000,000 across VGC, TCG, Pokémon GO, and Pokémon UNITE. Alongside the tournament, the new PokémonXP fan convention will feature panels, workshops, and exclusive merchandise. Meanwhile, Niantic has teased Pokémon GO Fest 2026: Mega Finale, a summer-ending mobile event focusing heavily on Mega Evolutions, rotating habitats, and Mega Raids.
TCG Releases and In-Game Events
August is also a packed month for TCG collectors and players. The First Partner Illustration Collection Series 3 launched on August 7, while the Mega Evolution Ascended Heroes Tin, featuring Mega Meganium ex, Mega Emboar ex, and Mega Feraligatr ex, is slated for release on August 28.
