Welcome to our October 9, 2026, Pokémon TCG news and meta roundup. The competitive landscape is shifting rapidly as we celebrate three decades of the franchise while preparing for massive upcoming set releases and structural tournament changes.
30th Celebration and Mega Evolution Delta Reign
The special 30th Celebration expansion continues to dominate retail shelves with its all-foil cards and Yoshirotten-designed Futuristic rare cards. Following the October 2 release of Booster Bundles and Mini Tins, players can look forward to the Deck Crafter's Collection on October 23, followed by the Espeon ex and Umbreon ex Battle Decks on October 30. Looking further ahead, the next main expansion, Mega Evolution—Delta Reign, launches on November 6, bringing the highly anticipated 'Mega Rayquaza ex' back to the game. Local prerelease events will run from October 24 through November 1.
Standard Meta and Swiss Format Updates
On the competitive side, the Standard format has fully settled into the post-rotation era, which limits legal cards to Regulation Mark H and later. Currently, Dragapult ex remains the undisputed king of the meta, forcing players to adapt their decks to survive its powerful damage-spread strategies. To make premier events fairer, Play! Pokémon has also adjusted the Swiss format for Regional and International tournaments. Any age division with at least 65 players will now feature an additional Swiss round, giving players with an X-2 record a much better chance of making the Top 8 cut.
To stay ahead of the game, we recommend checking the official Pokémon Event Locator to find a Mega Evolution—Delta Reign prerelease near you between October 24 and November 1. If you are entering local League events, make sure your deck is properly teched to counter Dragapult ex matchups. Finally, keep an eye out for the new 30th Celebration products and the upcoming Deck Crafter's Collection on October 23 to bolster your competitive card pool.
