Welcome to the October 21, 2026 Pokémon TCG news and format roundup. With major Regional Championships under way and new expansions approaching across physical and digital play, competitive players have plenty of updates to track. Today, we break down current Standard format trends, upcoming physical products, official ban list statuses, and major announcements for digital competitors.
Standard Meta Shifts and Ban Status
Following the addition of 30th Celebration cards into tournament play at the Frankfurt and Brisbane Regionals, Dragapult remains the top deck in the Standard format. However, Mega Lopunny ex has quickly risen as a premier contender alongside archetypes featuring Slowking, Alakazam, Cynthias Garchomp, and Ns Zoroark. On the official side, The Pokémon Company confirmed that zero cards are currently banned in Standard play. While legacy cards from older expansions have seen secondary market spikes in Expanded format discussions, the official Standard competitive environment remains completely clear of active restrictions heading into the Recife, Louisville, and Nice Regionals.
Delta Reign Release and Physical Wave 2
Physical TCG players can prepare for the upcoming expansion Mega Evolution — Delta Reign, with prerelease events starting on October 24, 2026, ahead of its November 6 retail launch. This set brings 'Mega Rayquaza ex' into the meta alongside 'Mega Golurk ex', 'Mega Malamar ex', and 'Mega Golisopod ex'. It also debuts the Legendary Stadium mechanic, allowing two Stadium cards to join together as separate halves on the field. Additionally, second-wave 30th Celebration physical products released on October 2, including Booster Bundles, Mini Tins, and the Deck Crafter's Collection designed to turn anniversary reprints and rare Pikachu cards into competitive decks.
Pokémon TCG Pocket Dual Fusion Update
On the digital side, Pokémon TCG Pocket has officially revealed its next expansion, Dual Fusion, launching on October 29, 2026. This set introduces dual-type cards such as 'Mega Mewtwo X ex' and Mega Greninja ex, while shifting the digital pack release schedule from a 4-week cycle to a 6-week cadence. To celebrate, the Pika Pika! Pikachu Missions event went live on October 20, offering players collectible promo packs and immersive card rewards before the C1 Block expansion arrives.
To stay ahead of the meta, players should participate in local Delta Reign prereleases beginning October 24 to test Legendary Stadium mechanics. Standard competitors aiming for upcoming Regionals in Recife, Louisville, and Nice should refine tech slots with options like Mew ex to manage shifting matchups against Dragapult and Mega Lopunny ex. Finally, digital players should complete daily in-game event missions to collect promo rewards before Dual Fusion releases on October 29.
