Welcome to our latest Pokémon TCG news and format update for September 25, 2026. The tabletop and digital landscapes are shifting rapidly with the historic launch of the 30th Celebration expansion, major tournament rule adjustments, and upcoming digital releases. Whether you are a physical collector, a competitive player, or a mobile fan, we have compiled the essential updates you need to navigate the current meta.
30th Celebration and Delta Reign Updates
The physical TCG is buzzing with the global release of the 30th Celebration expansion on September 16, 2026, featuring generous pull rates reported by TCGplayer, including Mew ex, Mewtwo ex, and classic reprints like Charizard. Looking ahead, the next major expansion, Delta Reign, is set to launch on November 6, 2026, introducing 'Mega Rayquaza ex' and a beautiful new Sprigatito Illustration Rare by Jiro Sasumo. Prerelease events for this highly anticipated set will kick off at local game stores on October 24, 2026.
Tournament Rules and H-Onwards Meta
On the competitive side, Play! Pokémon has implemented significant Q3 2026 tournament rule changes as of September 1, including an extra Swiss round for divisions with 65 or more players and a 16-player cap on asymmetrical Top Cut brackets. This comes as the Standard format settles into the H-Onwards era following the rotation of Gardevoir ex and Iono. The current meta is dominated by Dragapult, Basic Box, Alakazam variants, and N's Zoroark, while new 30th Celebration cards have significantly boosted Slowking decks.
Pokémon TCG Pocket and Target Events
Digital players can look forward to the Deluxe Pack: Mega in Pokémon TCG Pocket starting September 29, 2026, which guarantees high-rarity cards like Gengar ex and Rayquaza ex, alongside new alternate artworks for Mega Charizard X ex, Venusaur, Altaria, Gardevoir, and Lucario. Meanwhile, casual fans can visit Target on September 27, 2026, for a special 30th-anniversary in-store event featuring exclusive giveaways for the first 98 attendees.
To make the most of these updates, collectors should enjoy opening 30th Celebration packs but hold off on buying expensive singles like Charizard or Lugia until the Ultra Premium Collection drops in November. Mobile players should save their virtual hourglasses for the upcoming Deluxe Pack: Mega, while competitive players must review the new Play! Pokémon tournament handbooks before their next event. Finally, casual fans should arrive early at Target this Sunday to secure their limited-edition anniversary goodies.
