Welcome to our October 16, 2026 Pokémon TCG news roundup, covering current Standard format trends, upcoming expansion set releases, key Play! Pokémon rule adjustments, and exciting promotional collaborations.
Metagame Shifts and Set Releases
The Standard metagame in the Regulation Mark H era has stabilized, with Dragapult ex taking the top spot across major tournaments. Following the secondary wave of the 30th Celebration product line on October 2, players are now looking forward to the upcoming expansion Mega Evolution: Delta Reign. Anchored by 'Mega Rayquaza ex', the new set drops on November 6, with prerelease events scheduled between October 24 and November 1.
Play! Pokémon Rules and Japanese Reveals
Updated Play! Pokémon rules now dictate that tournament staff cannot serve as participant guardians, and asymmetrical top cuts are capped at a maximum of 16 players. Over in Japan, upcoming November Gym Promos revealed new cards including 'Mega Heatran ex' and the Supporter 'Lebanne', alongside a Special Deck Set featuring Mega Dragonite ex, Mega Gengar ex, and Mega Feraligatr ex.
Skateboards and Space Missions
In peripheral news, Santa Cruz Skateboards is launching a blind-bagged Pokémon TCG skateboard line on October 17 featuring 30 card art designs and 3 rare gold-foil variants. Additionally, The Pokémon Company International partnered with the European Space Agency to launch real cards, specifically Pikachu ex and Minior, to the International Space Station aboard SpaceX Crew-12.
To stay ahead of the meta, make sure to register early for Delta Reign prerelease events at your local game store between October 24 and November 1. Verify that your active tournament decks use cards with Regulation Mark H or later, and practice tech choices designed to handle Dragapult ex matchups before your next Regional championship.
