Today, September 16, 2026, marks a historic day for the Pokémon Trading Card Game with the global launch of the highly anticipated 30th Celebration special expansion. Alongside this massive release, the competitive landscape is shifting rapidly following the 2026 World Championships, and players are adjusting to the current Standard format rotation while looking ahead to upcoming sets.
The 30th Celebration Expansion Launches Globally
To combat overpriced import scalping, the 30th Celebration special expansion officially releases today on the exact same date worldwide. Every 5-card booster pack is guaranteed to contain one of 30 unique Pikachu rare cards alongside a Classic Collection of nostalgic reprints and new illustration rare cards. Fans can pick up launch products such as Tech Sticker Collections, Poster Collections, and Elite Trainer Boxes at retail starting today.
Dragapult ex Dominates the Post-Worlds Meta
Following the 2026 World Championships in late August, where Andrew Hedrick won the Masters Division, Dragapult ex has solidified its status as the format's premier deck. Because Dragapult ex is heavily targeted by opponent tech cards, the competitive field remains highly diverse, with decks like Alakazam, 'Raging Bolt Ogerpon', Hydrapple, and Mega Excadrill seeing heavy play as the 2027 Championship Series season begins.
Standard Format Shifts and Delta Reign Details
For players returning to competitive play this fall, remember that the 2026-2027 Standard format has completely rotated out G regulation cards. Former staples like Iono, Professor's Research, and the Arven package are no longer legal, forcing players to rely on newer engines like Lillie's Determination. Looking ahead, The Pokémon Company has confirmed details for the next major English expansion, Delta Reign, which will heavily feature Mega Evolution and star 'Mega Rayquaza ex', launching digitally on Pokémon TCG Live on November 5, 2026, and physically on November 6, 2026.
To stay ahead of the game, players should secure their 30th Celebration products today before they sell out, test Dragapult ex counters on Pokémon TCG Live to prepare for local League Cups, and mark their calendars for local Delta Reign prerelease events starting October 24, 2026.
